The day
A day, from the door to pickup
Half days end at 12:30 p.m. School days go on to 3:00 p.m.
- 01
Step 1: Arrival
A teacher greets each child at the door, and children hang their things on low hooks. Then a book, a friend or the table that was left set out overnight.
- 02
Step 2: Atelier and project time
The longest stretch of the morning. Children work on a project in the atelier or at the long table in the studio room, for as long as they stay interested.
- 03
Step 3: Snack
A few children help prepare snack, and everyone sits down together in the room.
- 04
Step 4: Outside
Time in the yard to dig, build and look, with a teacher in the yard and a headcount every time children come in.
- 05
Step 5: Lunch and rest
School-day families send lunch from home. Twos rest after lunch, and the studio room has a quiet hour for books and drawing.
- 06
Step 6: Afternoon
A story, then a second round of project time, and a look at the day's notes before pickup at 3:00 p.m.
